Once Upon a Time...

Once upon a time in the not-so-long-ago, there was a mysterious and magical world of wit and reverie, suspense and surprise.  This wonderful world existed without ipods, webcasts, Facebook, playstations, television or email.  It was a world of enchantment, enlightenment and exhilaration,
offering security and friendship without asking anything in return.  It was called "Books."

It's my world.

Whenever I'm sitting down - which isn't often - I feel compelled to be reading something.  Anything.  Even the back of a cereal box.  I plunge into a good book like I do a thick slice of raspberry white chocolate cheesecake with double hot fudge.

So welcome to my world.  Come on in.  Slide onto a kitchen chair.  Put your feet up.  The kettle's on the stove and the biscotti's on the table.  Help yourself to some good books...

Cover

Creaky knees, crow’s feet or candles costing more than the cake? Don’t fret. Rev up your “almost 50” engines and roar into middle age with Kristine Lowder’s newest title, "how i got to be 50 and other atrocities: a baby boomer reflects on the boom and other splashes of every day life."

Part humor, part homily and all homespun, how i got to be fifty is a compelling compilation of wit and wisdom skillfully weft into a quirky look at the “things that last” and What Matters: family, faith and friends.

Disarmingly honest and down-to-earth, how i got to be 50 and other atrocities brims with “sneaky, cheeky humor” and insights without being preachy. Chapters include grown-up-itis, keel-hauling 101, home is where the webbed feet are, aqua velva, and gunk and world peace. Says author Kristine Lowder, “All are especially good with a thick slice of raspberry white chocolate cheesecake and double hot fudge. Don't forget the banana split chaser. If you're weight conscious, hold the banana."

What Readers Are Saying:

On
Akeldama:

Akeldama

"I have read only a few Christian novels worthy of the name. My favorite Christian authors are C.S. Lewis, Stephen R. Lawhead, Joseph F. Girzone, and now Kristine Lowder. I must tell you that her book, Akeldama, touched me so deeply that I cried like a baby as I read the final chapter. Yes, the final chapter is about the resurrection of Jesus Christ—not a new subject. But something in her telling of it blessed me with joy, gratitude, awe, and wonder. I cannot remember a time when I wanted to re-read a book as soon as I finished it. Treat yourself to a great book!"

- William C. Oakes, Senior Pastor
Living Stones Fellowship

On Guys and Other Near Humans:
"I laughed myself silly when I was reading it, and I only raised one son.  Some good chuckles here!"
- Judith Glad, Author and Publisher, Uncial Press
